    1. The world of more than 3000 BC. People try to make a living off the land. A barbarian tribe sweeps across the land destroying everything in its path. Young Eskkar belongs to the tribe, but in a sudden change of events he becomes an outcast, and has to learn to survive amongst the people who fear him because of his barbarian looks.Eskkar wanders from place to place, making the story seem like a bunch of short stories all strung together. 2. Although this book introduces the main characters, recommend that it be read after reading the main Eskkar saga because this book is a collection of stories about Eskkar and Trella and a first time reader may not connect readily to the main story line of the saga. Although an enjoyable read within the chapters, the disconnection between the chapters is a mood killer. however a San Barone Fan and a reader who have gone through the highs of the saga will not be able to resist reading it.

    3. I love that the author wrote this prequel to the series. It takes place around 3,100 b.c. and involves the survival of Eskkar who is forced to leave his tribe as a young man and survives by his wits. There is plenty of sword fighting and interaction with the people in the region of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. Trella's part in this prequel is small but her adventure is intense.

    4. Very exciting read about the story of Eskkar. The Trella part was added on as an afterthought, I feel like it was someone else who wrote it, not as many details, and kind of rushed. The author could have shortened Eskkar's story by a few chases we could have learned more about Trella. Also, the character Eskkar cursed his luck way too many times. If I had a dollar every time he cursed his luck

    5. Really the first (prequel) in the sage, but I read it 4th (published order) and I really, really liked it a lot. Sam Barone is a great writer and his novels are filled with action, adventure and heroic, believable characters. I can’t wait to get my hands on the fifth in this series, Battle for Empire.

    6. It is ok but if I hadn't read the other books first I would have been very disappointed with itI found the fact that he finished each short story without a description of what happened next and what happened to the characters really irritating

    7. I love this prequel to the series. It's nice to read more about Eskkar's and Trella's background. The characters were well written and I loved the little story throughout their journeys. Makes me want to go back and re-read the series.
