    1. I chose to read this book out of curiosity about Dominica. Jean Rhys is a better known author, but her famous novel "Wide Sargasso Sea", which I have not read yet, is not entirely set in Dominica, so "A Flying Fish Whispered" was my choice."A Flying Fish whispered" is set in the fictional island of St. Celia, with a chapter set in the also fictional Parham Island, both Dominica and Antigua respectively (although, apparently, Parham was the initial name of Antigua when discovered).     2. The romance that scaffolds the storyline I found forgettable, but the fabric of life in late colonial British Caribbean (Dominica and Barbados) rings true.
